Lost wax casting overview

Lost wax casting is a process where a wax item is melted out of a flask and the molten metal goes in its place. Over the next few weeks we will show this entire process in detail.

Process steps:

1. Produce the wax object.

2. Attach the sprue for casting.

3. Item gets attached to a bigger sprue, called a tree, along with other items that will be cast in the same metal.

4. Each tree gets its own flask and investment is added to each flask.

5. After the investment has set up, the flasks get put in a kiln for the wax to be melted out.

6. When the flasks are ready and all the wax has been melted out, molten metal gets added by one of several available techniques.

7. The flask then gets quenched in water and the tree is now solid metal.
